The Dolomites celebrate 10 years of UNESCO heritage

Italo, always close to local cultural and social events, supports the celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the Dolomites becoming UNESCO heritage starting on 26 June 2019 in Cortina d’Ampezzo. Through its rail and road service Italobus, Italo now has 4 daily connections to Cortina to make its passengers attend the many events scheduled there. Italo’s easy connections will allow passengers to attend the over 140 events scheduled next summer in Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Back in June 2009, UNESCO included the Dolomites – a group of mountains located in North-East Italy- in their prestigious World Heritage List. Chosen as a UNESCO Site for their amazing beauty and geological and geomorphological importance for the History of the Planet, this year’s 10th anniversary, will foresee official events attended by Italian national and local governments as well as music and cultural events, the perfect framework to wish happy birthday to the Dolomites. The events foreseen for the ten-year anniversary will continue throughout the summer. There will be the so-called “Incontri d’Alt(r)a Quota” (Other/High level meetings) with long walks to the Dolomites’ best shelters such as Rifugio Berti, Rifugio Agostini, Rifugio Plan de Fontana, Rifugio Cava Buscada and Rifugio Pradidali. UNESCO’s Dolomites Foundation and the Ministry of the Environment will coordinate the many scheduled events through the Committee established to celebrate the Dolomite’s ten-year anniversary as UNESCO Heritage.
