ITALO’S COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT RECOGNIZED AT AN INTERNATIONAL LEVEL
Rome, April 24, 2026. Italo’s ongoing commitment to environmental protection and decarbonization has been internationally recognized by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), the organization that promotes corporate climate action and enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to contribute to the fight against the climate crisis by providing technical standards, tools, and scientific guidance for setting credible and concrete targets and actions.
Italo has obtained validation of its near-term, long-term, and net-zero targets following a rigorous assessment process by SBTi, focused on the company’s greenhouse gas emissions inventory and related reduction levers. This validation recognizes Italo’s commitment to setting concrete goals aligned with the objectives established by the United Nations under the 2015 Paris Agreement.
Specifically, the targets, based on the 2023 baseline year, are structured as follows:
Near-Term (2030)
Reduction of absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 42.61%;
Reduction of Scope 3 absolute emissions by 25% related to the procurement of goods, services, and energy.
Long-Term (2050)
Reduction of absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 90%;
Reduction of 90% of absolute Scope 3 emissions related to the procurement of goods, services, and energy, waste management, and business mobility.
Net ZeroItalo commits to achieving carbon neutrality (net-zero GHG emissions) by 2050.
These ambitious, scientifically validated targets certify the consistency and depth of Italo’s ongoing ESG efforts.
“The validation of our processes and targets by a prestigious organization such as SBTi represents a major achievement for Italo. It is an important milestone that demonstrates the breadth of the work carried out in the ESG field. Significant challenges lie ahead, and we are confident we will achieve meaningful results” commented Fabio Sgroi, Health & Safety Director at Italo.
