The 2020 pandemic put a great strain on the transportation sector. Italo reacted by investing in safety, becoming the first train in the world using HEPA filters the same as those used in planes, and improving our personnel’s training. The company also chose to expand in southern Italy, opening up in Calabria, Cilento, Puglia, Caserta and Benevento, and more recently in Genoa, thus connecting new strategic areas.
Nowadays, Italo has over 100 million passengers, 53 stations in 48 cities, 116 daily connections and a team of over 1400 employees. This success has made Italian high-speed trains an international model and Italo a case history for rail market deregulation.
Moreover, Italo’s story is a fully Italian adventure that started in 2006. An Italian portfolio, with Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, Diego Della Valle, Gianni Punzo e Giuseppe Sciarrone as founding members and a majority of Italian shareholders. An Italian mindset, thanks to the technicians who thought, planned and implemented it. An Italian heart where all young people can show their value through our trust, training and responsibility.
