Ferrara in Jazz

Jazz Club Ferrara, formerly known as “Circolo amici del jazz” and active since the end of the 70s.

In over 40 years of continuous activity, the club has organised great events featuring some of the most famous jazz stars at global level such as Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Michel Petrucciani, McCoy Tyner, George Benson, Wynton Marsalis, etc. to promote and diffuse the great Afro-American music culture in the region.

Among its most important initiatives there are the Comacchio jazz meetings, the great seasons made together with Ferrara’s Communal Theatre, the twinning with New York’s Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra, “Jazz D.O.C.” and “Ferrara in Jazz”, now at its 28th edition.

The Club has been working in the prestigious Torrione San Giovanni since 1999. Thanks to the support of the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Council of Ferrara, Endas Emilia-Romagna and several private partners, this amazing bastion and the city’s ancient walls – a UNESCO site built during Renaissance (1493) – host “Ferrara in Jazz”, a festival with over seventy concerts from October to April. The festival foresees many important collaborations with famous events and organisations such as Ferrara Musica, Ferrara Arte, Ferrara’s Conservatory “G. Frescobaldi”, the Siena Jazz Foundation, the Mirto Govoni Memorial, Bologna Jazz Festival, Crossroads – a Jazz travelling festival - and many other activities of Emilia-Romagna.

The Torrione stage hosts every year many famous national and international jazz stars. Moreover, it gives the opportunity to young talents to improve their musical skills in one of the region’s most lively jazz schools. Jazz Club Ferrara is also involved in many charity activities, supporting the town’s humanitarian associations such as A.D.O., A.I.L., A.V.I.S., Progetto Mondo M.L.A.L., Associazione “Emiliano De Marco”, Associazione “Ferrara InSuono”, Associazione “Onlus Giulia”, A.Ca.Re.F. and Emergency. The Club also hosts visual art events through its exhibitions focused on promoting young artists.

Italo is proud to share Ferrara’s artistic beauty and cultural spirit that attract many fans as well as many other people from all over Italy and abroad. Through its many connections, Italo gives its travellers the opportunity to see many art and music excellences.
