Plant Operator
The Plant Operator role is the first step in the career path that leads to becoming an Italo train driver. In this position, the operator is responsible for the formation and movement of rolling stock, working within and between train formation yards and stations, in compliance with the certifications required by Decree 4/2012 and Legislative Decree 247/2010.The Plant Operator manages train preparation and commissioning, oversees train stabling, and ensures the correct execution of turnaround activities—such as cleaning and technical and commercial refueling—while guaranteeing compliance with the operating schedule.

Italo is seeking and selecting high school graduates to be trained for the role of Plant Operators for the locations of: Milan, Venice, and Rome.
Requirements and Skills
- Education: Technical or Scientific High School Diploma (electrotechnics preferred)
- Professional experience: none required for newly qualified graduates
- Willingness to relocate to any of the current work locations (Milan, Venice, and Rome). The final assignment of the workplace will be subject to passing the qualification exams, the final ranking of the course, and company availability.
- Availability to work on 24/7 shifts
- Availability to work on public holidays
Successful completion of the selection process is subject to passing physical and psychometric medical examinations (Legislative Decree 247/2010 and PDT) carried out by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI).
Candidates who successfully complete the selection process will be hired under a professional apprenticeship contract and enrolled in a training program aimed at obtaining the required certifications.
Top-performing Trainee Plant Operators may be offered the opportunity to continue the training program to become Train Drivers, based on the company’s needs.
