ITALO CELEBRATES ITALIAN FEMALE GENIUS
• Throughout history, many Italian women have contributed to scientific and technological development but are not widely known to the public.
• On March 8th, Italo will name one of its trains after Laura Bassi, the first female university professor and the first European woman to obtain a university teaching position in physics. Throughout the year, through a contest involving its employees, other female scientists from the past will be selected to have trains named after them. This project aims to remember the contributions of women to technological and scientific development.
• The company will form partnerships with leading Italian universities to support the academic paths of young female STEM students. Even today, there is a significant gender gap in these disciplines: the male share of STEM degrees is 37%, while the female share is less than 17%.
